WALDPORT, Ore. -- Three men accused of using a hammer and broom to brutalize a teenager planned to make a video in the spirit of the MTV movie "Jackass," their friends said Monday.

Christopher Sparks, Robert Bernal and Cody Rector used weapons to beat and sexually assault the victim, according to court documents.

They’re also accused of using a lighter to burn the victim, who acquaintances said considered the suspects friends.

Friends said the men had grown up together in the Waldport area and bullied the victim for years.

They said alcohol and marijuana was involved in the incident and, when the victim passed out, they said things got out of control. They said a "Jackass" movie was planned for the night of the assault.

On Monday, citizens of the coastal town were pulling together for the victim and raising money for hospital bills and counseling.

Meanwhile, in court, bail was set at $300,000 each of the three suspects in the case. If convicted, they could spend at least eight years in prison.
