First-Graders Help Classmate Fight Cancer

Students and families in Hillsboro have teamed up to help a first-grader in her fight against cancer.

Seven-year-old Lesly Foster is battling stage-four neuroblastoma, a rare form of cancer in children.

This week, staff at Paul Patterson Elementary School launched Pennies For Lesly, a fundraiser to help her family pay her costly medical bills.

Lesly’s teacher said she’s amazed by the generosity of students, some of whom even donated their tooth fairy money.

“They understand that she’s sick, they’re not sure why, but they know we’re helping Lesly get some medicine and that medicine is very expensive,” said Heather Nakonsky, a first-grade teacher.

If you would like to donate to Lesly’s cause, visit www.caringbridge.org/visit/leslyfoster.
