ALBANY, Ore. -- Albany police arrested a man and his girlfriend Thursday during the course of an investigation of an armed robbery.Police shut down a roadway in Albany around 1 p.m. Thursday and ordered two people out of a home in the 1500 block of Santiam Highway.Police said the man arrested is responsible for holding up an Albany mini-mart Wednesday night. The victim said the robber came in holding a semiautomatic handgun. Now Thursday afternoon, police have identified the suspect as 37-year-old Joseph Dyer, a transient. The clerk who said he was held up Wednesday said the masked man came in to the in-and-out market just after 8 p.m. wearing a black mask and ski goggles. The victim said it was a “very scary experience” and the robber never said a word. He just motioned with a silver handgun to give him the money in the till. The victim said the man then ran across the street and down some train tracks with several hundred dollars. The clerk said he believed the suspect was a regular customer and with that information and acting on a tip police were able to make the arrest Thursday afternoon. The victim said he’s glad Dyer is off the street because being a robbery victim is a nerve-wracking experience.“Nobody should have to go through this, nobody. It's not a good experience,” said Jim, the victim. “All kinds of crap goes through your head. You don't know what to think.”
