A go-kart racer survived a violent crash in which he and his kart flipped several times Sunday.

David Burrup lost control of his kart during a race at Pat's Acres in Canby. He sailed through the air, flipping several times as his foot was caught on the gas pedal.

Burrup managed to get right back up after the crash. He suffered only minor scratches.

"I didn't realize I was so far in the air, but it went by so quick," Burrup said. "I was never scared, I never felt like I was in danger."

Track owner Chris Egger said the track works hard to keep racers safe. In Burrup's case, he said help was instantly on its way.

"We've got paramedics on site at all times when we're racing," Egger said. "The paramedics were over there to talk to him immediately, probably 10 to 15 seconds after it happened."

Burrup said his go-kart took a beating in the crash. After the accident, his own competition helped him repair his kart so he could get back in the race.

Despite the amazing crash, Burrup said he's not giving up his favorite pastime.

"I don't feel scared of carting at all," Burrup said. "I'm excited to go out to my next race next weekend."

Burrup, whose next race is in McMinnville, finished sixth place Sunday.
