UPDATED: 4:53 pm PDT May 9, 2008

Investigators determined Friday that the fire that destroyed Oney's Restaurant and Lounge on Tuesday was caused by arson.

The fire required seven different firefighting organizations to respond and caused more than $770,000 in damage to the approximate 8500-square-foot building originally constructed in 1927, firefighters said.

The restaurant was well known for its large Paul Bunyan sign in front.

Crews had previously said it appeared the blaze started in the bar area on the east side of the building.

A $5,000 fund is set up to reward people who help the authorities catch arsonists. Anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest of an arsonist is considered for nomination for the fund.

Anyone with information about the fire at Oney's can call the Oregon Arson Hotline at 800-452-7888.
