FOREST GROVE, Ore. -- A $60,000 home was written off as a total loss after a fire burned through the floor, filling the home with smoke, fire investigators said.More than 25 firefighters responded to the scene of the house fire in the Quail Run Mobile Home Park Community in Forest Grove on Monday morning. When crews from Forest Grove Fire & Rescue arrived at about 10:35 a.m. they found smoke pouring out from underneath a double-wide manufactured home in the park.
Firefighters located the fire under the floor and in the roof area of the home. There were a number of places inside the living room of the home where the floor had burned completely away and fire was coming through the floor. This caused firefighters to have to find a different way to safely enter the home. The elderly man who lived in the home described seeing smoke coming through his heating and cooling vents while he worked in his office. When he opened the office door, the home was full of smoke, but he was able to get out on his own.The man was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and transported by Metro West Ambulance to Tuality Hospital in Hillsboro for further evaluation. It doesn't appear that a smoke alarm was functioning in the home.It took about 45 minutes for firefighters to get the fire under control, and by that time the $60,000 home was a total loss. The fire burned through the floor and into the living room space of the home, which caused extensive damage to that area, as well as severe smoke damage throughout the other parts of the home.Fire investigators aren't sure yet what began the blaze but they believe the fire began underneath the home, possibly as a result of a problem with the electric furnace.
