UPDATED: 5:56 pm PDT May 15, 2008

A gunman killed by police shot a man to death before officers arrived at a northeast Portland home Tuesday, police said.

Jason Spoor, 27, is accused of shooting 29-year-old Dwayne Hampton in the head.

When officers arrived at the 9100 block of Northeast Glisan Street to investigate reports of a homicide, Spoor walked out holding a handgun, police said.

Authorities said Spoor ignored reports to drop his gun, leading police to shoot and kill him.

Police said Spoor killed Hampton with the same gun he was carrying when he was approaching Portland officers.

After the shooting, Hampton's body was found inside the house.

Spoor shot Hampton because of an ongoing dispute between the two men, police said.

Anyone with information on the two men involved is asked to call 503-823-0757 or 503-823-0395.
