PORTLAND, Ore. -- The sidewalks in front of Portland's City Hall were clean Thursday after police cleared out groups of protesters so that the walkways could be washed.Portland police began enforcing the city's sit-lie ordinance Thursday to clear out the homeless campers who had been protesting in front of Portland City Hall for the past several weeks.Andrew Newman was arrested when, police said, he would not get out of the street.But otherwise the sweep was peaceful, police said.
City officials said people can still protest in front of City Hall; they just can't camp there.
