Land Developer Hospitalized After Shooting

Violent crime may be one of the last things you expect in a neighborhood with stunning views and homes listed at more than $1 million.

But Sunday night, sheriff's deputies arrived at a rural Kalama neighborhood to find a man's shirt soaked in blood after a shooting.

Chad Wilson, a prominent Washington land developer, and his wife, Michelle, found a man on their Kalama development Sunday.

Wilson's friend, who spoke on camera but didn't want to be identified, said the man was a stranger and that he attacked Wilson at an entrance to the development.

He said the two men were fighting when the stranger pulled out a gun, leading Wilson to run up a hill.

Wilson was shot three times in the back and the foot. He's expected to survive, but he remained in intensive care Wednesday.

Deputies later arrested Roy Jorgensen, who lives in Woodland, in connection with the incident. Court documents said Jorgensen admitted to the shooting, but that he was being severely beaten and the shooting was in self-defense.

Jorgensen said his attorney advised him not to comment on the incident.

Last year, Wilson was accused of siphoning water for his development in Kalama. Those charges were dropped and there's no indication that issue played a role in the attack Sunday.

Friends said Wilson didn't know the suspect prior to the shooting.
