ARLINGTON, Ore. -- Ten to 15 homes were evacuated Sunday night after lightning sparked three fires on the west slope of the eastern Oregon town of Arlington. The fire came within a few feet of one home, but firefighters arrived with a water tender truck just in time to put a stop to the flames, Gilliam County deputies said.Crews were able to save all of the homes, but several power poles were burned by the fires. Authorities estimate 10,000 acres were burned before the fires were contained.Firefighters managed to douse the fires overnight. They kept an eye out Monday for flare-ups, with the help of work crews in the area who were putting up wind turbines. There were no injuries reported in the fires and Arlington residents have been allowed to return to their homes.
