Police Say Woman Made Up Story Of Sidewalk Rape

POSTED: 7:12 am PDT July 1, 2008
UPDATED: 7:21 am PDT July 1, 2008

A woman who reported to police that she was raped on a Molalla sidewalk fabricated the story, police said Monday.

Joresa Jefferson, 18, admitted Monday she made the false report of a stranger rape, officers said. Jefferson's report led police to release a sketch of a man wanted in the made-up incident.

During the investigation, many items of evidence were sent to the Oregon State Police crime lab to be examined. The crime lab reported back to the police department Monday and examiners told them there was no physical evidence of rape, police said.

Investigators then re-interviewed Jefferson and she told them she made up the story and the description of the alleged attacker.

Police said Jefferson is out of the state on vacation. When she returns, they said they plan to issue her a citation on a charge of making a false report.
