A woman who had her purse stolen at a campground last month asked for help Wednesday in finding the thief.

Kristine Hilt said she didn't worry about theft when she locked her purse in her car's trunk before hitting the hiking trail June 9 near Fisher Creek Campground.

"When we got back to the car, I noticed my window was broken," Hilt said. "The back passenger rear window was broken … all the doors were shut and the trunk was closed."

Hilt said only her purse and wallet had been stolen and she thinks someone watched her put it in the trunk.

"My friend said there were two people," Hilt said. "We just remember an older man standing beside his truck, just watching us."

Hilt canceled the cards but then found some transactions she didn't make. She was contacted by her credit card company.

She said one of her debit cards was used twice at a Chevron station in Estacada. Another card was used at a Chevron in Eagle Creek and a Safeway in Sandy.

Hilt said the Eagle Creek station gave her surveillance photos of a woman using her card.

"It's sad that we can't even go out and go camping or hiking because there are people that will take anything and everything from them," Hilt said.

The only other car parked at the trail at the time of the theft was an early 1990s Chevrolet Cheyenne pickup truck. It was forest green and had an extended cab.

Anyone with information on the theft is asked to call the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office.
