UPDATED: 1:15 am PDT July 7, 2008

A Fourth of July outing turned deadly for a 19-year-old man Friday.

Fire and rescue officials said Shane Stumpo had been visiting Blue Lake Park when he went under the water.

Emergency crews began searching for him in the water. About 15 minutes in, someone on a boat saw the man under the water. Crews pulled him out and immediately started CPR.

"They pulled the gentleman up from the water and brought him," said Richard Benton, who was camping at the park. "They probably worked on him for about 10 minutes."

Rescuers received a pulse from the teen and he was taken to Mount Hood Medical Center.

Stumpo died at the hospital.
