PORTLAND, Ore. -- A former Portland firefighter accused of initiating a false report when making a 911 call reached a deal with prosecutors Tuesday.Brandon King is the same man who made an appearance on the "Dr. Phil" TV show.King entered a plea of no contest to charges stemming from a phone call he made to the OHSU poison control center in November of last year.Officials said during the call King identified himself as a firefighter and asked the operator for help in treating a drug overdose victim.
Investigators later determined he made the whole thing up.In January, a grand jury indicted King on charges of official misconduct and initiating a false report.Police said the charges have nothing to do with King's appearance on "Dr. Phil."According to FOX 12's news partner, the Portland Tribune, King denied drugging and having sex with his 18-year-old live-in nanny on the show.Tuesday, a judge accepted the plea deal and sentenced King to two years of probation and 120 hours of community service. The judge also stipulated that King must enter treatment for mental health issues and regularly submit to drug and alcohol tests. If he successfully completes this program at the end of the two years, the charges will be dismissed from his record.During his court appearance, prosecutors said they extended the plea deal with the understanding that King's phone call to the poison control center was driven by drug addiction and/or mental health issues.
