A suspect in a robbery died Saturday after his speeding SUV crashed into a home.

Police said they showed up at a Gresham home to approach John Renoud in connection with a robbery from the previous night. Before they could formulate a plan, Renoud sped away in a Dodge Durango, officers said.

Ten blocks away, Renoud's SUV hit a car and a mailbox, clipped the side of a home, went through a fence and smashed into a car parked inside a garage, according to police.

The impact pushed the parked car from the garage into the living room of a home in the 19300 block of NE Clackamas.

Crews pulled Renoud from the SUV after he had been pinned in. He was later pronounced dead at Legacy Emanuel Hospital.

The people who lived at the home were all sleeping and weren't hurt.
