Oregon City Accident Severs Man's Leg

Victim Taken To OHSU

UPDATED: 12:23 pm PDT July 21, 2008

A car passenger had his leg amputated after a joyriding accident in Oregon City on Saturday.

Police said the passenger was in a car driven by Traves Reynolds, who was performing doughnuts in a parking lot near Willamette Falls Hospital.

A witness said the victim, 19-year-old Jonathan Lecon, stepped out of the car and the driver told him to get back in.

"He let him half-way in the car, is what my daughter told me, and the kid flew out and he didn't even know it," said Jay Havlick, who lives in the area. "(He) ended up running over him."

An Oregon City police detective responded and said he saw Reynolds standing outside the car with a cell phone. Lecon was on the ground with bloody, mangled legs.

Paramedics took Lecon to Oregon Health & Science University. Doctors amputated one of his legs and they're trying to save the other leg.

Police arrested Reynolds on several charges, including second-degree assault and driving under the influence.

Investigators asked anyone with information on the incident to call Oregon City police.
