Fire Damages Gresham Apartments

POSTED: 7:18 am PDT August 8, 2008

A Gresham apartment fire displaced several people Thursday evening.

The blaze broke out at 6 p.m. on Southwest Eastman Parkway. Fire officials said the flames started on the second floor and then spread to the third story.

Crews were forced to evacuate everyone from the 18-unit complex when they arrived.

Jennifer Gutierrez said she feared for her mother-in-law, who lives in the same complex. "That was my first fear, did she get out?" Gutierrez said.

There were no significant injuries and medics treated one person for a minor injury at the scene.

The American Red Cross helped people who were forced out of six apartment units.

Fire officials said they're still trying to figure out what caused the fire.
