TUALATIN, Ore. -- The Trail Blazers All-Star guard Brandon Roy made his first public appearance Wednesday since having knee surgery last week.Roy met with reporters at the team's practice facility in Tualatin.Roy made it clear during a press conference Wednesday that in his mind he's been here before and it's not a big deal. It was just a matter of cleaning up the knee and moving on."When you're injured you can't make any excuses because it's pretty much out of our hands," Roy said.
Roy met with media in the lobby of the Blazers practice facility, walking in without the use of crutches. This surgery is the second Roy has had performed on his left knee, the first was when he was in high school."No basketball player wants to be injured. I'm just really upset that this occurred but it's part of the game, and I just have to deal with it," Roy said.Initially this summer, he began to feel pain in early July while working out in Seattle. A month later, the pain still hadn't gone away and that's when they decided he should undergo surgery.Roy said one of his first calls after speaking to Blazers doctors was to Greg Oden."I was more concerned with his knee, and then when mine started bothering me I asked him a few questions just to make sure it was different. He was telling me where he had some pain and I was thinking, 'That's good because mine's slightly different than that,'" Roy said. The question remained as to when Roy would be able to start playing again with the Blazers.Preseason training camp begins at the end of September and the Blazers said it will be about six to eight weeks before Roy returns, which puts him back in the mix before the season opener."I've just got to hope that nothing else comes up," Roy said. "But as long as I can play I'm going to make sure that I do the best job that I can for my teammates."
