PORTLAND, Ore. -- A driver led officers on a lengthy chase throughout the Portland metro area Wednesday evening, police said.Newberg-Dundee police said they tried to pull over a van after reports the driver was driving recklessly.Officers said John Barbosa never stopped and kept driving on Highway 99W. He's accused of leading police on a chase through Sherwood, King City, Tigard and into Portland.Near the Rose Quarter, a Portland police officer used a spike strip to puncture the van's tires, police said.While Barbosa kept driving onto Interstate 405 and onto Highway 26, his van finally came to a stop in Cedar Hills, authorities said.Barbosa, who lives in White City, was arrested on charges of attempt to elude and reckless driving.The pursuit began at 6:50 p.m. and ended at 7:25 p.m.Police said it's possible that Barbosa was involved in a hit-and-run earlier in the day or during the chase.
