A traffic stop on Interstate 5 netted Oregon State Police two arrests and 65 pounds of cocaine, officers said.

Two Washington state men were arrested after police stopped their 2007 Honda Accord Wednesday morning on Interstate 5 northbound near milepost 140, officers said.

The two men, Cristian Escalante-Castaneda, 25, and his passenger Alfonso Garcia-Castaneda, 28, both from Seattle, were pulled over for following another vehicle too closely and other hazardous traffic offenses, police said.

Officers seized 30 kilos of cocaine in the initial stop and a subsequent investigation by Winston, a Douglas County Interagency Narcotics Team K-9, found about 65 pounds of cocaine in hidden compartments in the car, police said.

Detectives said the amount of cocaine seized would be worth about $600,000 on the street.

The two men were lodged in the Douglas County Jail on charges of unlawful possession and distribution of a controlled substance, cocaine.

Detectives are continuing the investigation.
