UPDATED: 5:40 pm PDT August 28, 2008

Police said they arrested two people after a beer theft turned into a robbery when a store clerk fought back early Thursday.

Just after midnight, Forest Grove officers were called out to a robbery at the Plaid Pantry at 2436 19th Ave. where they found a 16-year-old boy who was being detained by two citizens, police said.

Police learned that the boy and another male had been trying to steal beer and used physical force against the store clerk when he tried to stop them, officers said.

The second accused robber, Brendon Malloy, 20, was found nearby with the help of a Cornelius K-9 unit, police said.

The 16-year-old was arrested on a charge of first-degree robbery and Malloy was arrested on charges of second-degree robbery and harassment.

The store clerk was uninjured.
