A man is on the run after grabbing a necklace and running from a local jewelry store Wednesday.

Detectives said they're still searching for the man who pretended he was going to buy a gold $1,300 necklace then ran from a jewelry store on Southwest Watson Avenue.

Nearby business owners said it's sad to see someone's hard work go down the drain.

"A lot of jewelers work really hard to get what they have, and to have somebody come in and take it away is really shocking," said Steven Smith who works nearby. "Hopefully there'll be more police presence in the area to prevent any kind of other problems."

Beaverton police said the thief is a Hispanic man, 25 years old, 5 feet 5 inches tall, 150 pounds, with crew-cut dark-colored hair.

At the time of the theft he was wearing a light blue track-style jacket with one white stripe down the sleeve and some sort of lettering across the back with a medium blue T-shirt underneath, Nike-type sweat band around his head and dark blue or black checkered shorts.

Anyone with information about the theft should call Beaverton police.
