Vancouver fire officials said two cars collided and hit the bicyclist at around 7 a.m. near the intersection of Fourth Plain Boulevard and Columbia Street.

A Land Rover involved in the wreck rolled onto its passenger side and came to a stop at the southwest corner of the intersection, Vancouver police said.

When firefighters arrived, they found the bike in a nearby yard and the bicyclist lying in a crosswalk, fire officials said.

The bicyclist, 54-year-old John Schaffers, suffered minor injuries in the crash and was taken to Southwest Washington Medical Center, police said.

Police said Irene Sheppard, the driver of the Land Rover, was also taken to a hospital after firefighters removed the roof of her vehicle to reach her. Her injuries weren't considered life-threatening.

The driver of the second car in the collision was not injured, but was cited on charges of failure to obey a traffic device and failure to have insurance.
