Police said two men connected with a bank scam in Tigard were arrested on unrelated charges at a California university.

Suspects were identified by Tigard police in a scam where two men posed as security guards outside a Wells Fargo in order to collect banking deposits in August, officers said.

Police said they learned that the two suspects were being held by the Alameda County sheriff on unrelated charges.

University of California Police at Berkeley arrested a 19-year-old and a 20-year-old on charges of burglary in a case of a break-in of a college dorm, police said.

A search of the men's home in San Francisco revealed security uniforms, security badges, identification cards and other evidence of possible criminal activity, police said.

University police sent information about the seized items out to West Coast law enforcement agencies and it finally made its way to the Tigard Police Department, officers said.

Police said both men were subsequently identified by witnesses in the bank scam case.

Tigard police said they filed a report with the Washington County District Attorney to have the case referred to a grand jury.
