Family Won't Have To Pay $19,370 Phone Bill

A family won't have to pay a $19,370 phone bill after AT&T examined the charges and dismissed most of them.

A representative from AT&T said that they are committed to providing excellent customer service, and after carefully reviewing the charges have decided to adjust the bill to the Terry family's satisfaction.

The Terry family was hit with the nearly $20,000 bill when their son who is a baseball umpire went to Vancouver, Canada for work.

They disputed the bill on grounds that they weren't told about international fees for using the service of an AirCard.

The AirCard allows users to connect to e-mail, the Internet and business applications while traveling, according to AT&T's Web site.

Dave Terry said someone called him and said he was a vice president of AT&T and that the bill will be waived as long as they get to keep him as a customer and Terry agreed.

AT&T is in the process of implementing a system to alert customers when there are suspicious charges on their account, an AT&T representative said.

Terry said that the family's monthly cell phone bill usually runs about $250 to $300.
