KING CITY, Ore. -- Volunteers came together Monday to help people at a local retirement community get their sense of security back.Homeowners off Royal Villa Drive were shaken up after one of their 85-year-old neighbors was robbed at gunpoint this weekend.Dian Ross said the robber was wearing a ski mask so she couldn't give a very good description. The man is still free to roam the streets, but volunteers were putting together a program to help people who live near Ross feel more secure. The group went into homes in the area of King City where the robbery occurred and installed window locks and door locks for anyone who wanted one.About 15 people came forward wanting to help.In Ross' case, the man actually came right to the front door, and when she answered, he threatened to kill her.Ross gave the man some money and he ran off.Still volunteers said they think getting homeowners some new, sturdy locks will give them some peace of mind."We just know that maybe if we come together as a community and reach out to them and show them that we care and respect and love them that we'll be able to at least give them some sense of security back," coordinator Apryl Potter said.Anyone interested in donating to the cause can do that at any West Coast Bank.Ross said she is doing just fine and she said she thinks the robber may have been a teenager.Anyone with information about the investigation should call the Washington County Sheriff's Office.
