Boogie Boarders Rescued By Coast Guard

POSTED: 10:24 pm PDT October 4, 2008

Four boogie boarders were rescued from a cliff near Newport on Saturday.

Coast Guard officials said two men and two women wound up on a cliff near Devil's Punchbowl State Park after they were pulled out to sea by a riptide. The riptide eventually carried them to the cliff, officials said.

Strong winds made it dangerous for the boogie boarders to paddle back to shore, leading the Coast Guard to call in a helicopter crew from North Bend.

The helicopter took the four boogie boarders to shore and the Coast Guard then drove them to their vehicle.

No injuries were reported.
