The Insane Clown Posse is not welcome at Lebanon High School.

Lebanon High School officials said they may ban clothing, music and other paraphernalia connected to a hip-hop group from being worn on campus.

But high school students in the small Wilamette Valley town are protesting the proposed ban, saying they should be able to wear what they want to class.

Students have organized a protest in support of wearing shirts and other things connected to a group called Insane Clown Posse. School administrators said ICP is connected with violent gangs so it's not allowed on campus.

At Lebanon High School, some students were upset that music or anything else connected to ICP may soon be banned from campus.

"I just love the music. It makes me relax. It's cool," student Christopher Wright said.

Students said banning music T-shirts and anything else affiliated with Insane Clown Posse is just plain crazy.

"People should be able to wear what they want unless it's really bad. A shirt, what's that going to do?" student Brad Coberly said.

ICP is known for its horror-type imagery and violent lyrics, and police said in other areas of the country some violent crimes have been linked to people who claim to be hardcore fans of the band.

Principal Mark Finch said it's against district policy to allow anything connected to gangs on school grounds.

But he said the district is trying to work with students.

"How do we allow them to be individuals and still comply with board policy?" Finch said.

Students said there's no difference between Insane Clown Posse and other hip-hop groups. They also said that everyone seems to agree that there are no gangs in Lebanon.

"It's just like wearing tight pants with emo or Pantera or Twisted, no different than anything else," Wright said.

Students gathered dozens of signatures to try to persuade the district to make an exception for ICP. The school board is in the process of making a decision.
