Emergency Response Tested By Flood Drill

A mock flooding drill is helping the Portland water bureau be a little more prepared.

The sun was shining as crews practice for the possibility of a major flood in the city.

The Portland Water Bureau worked with the Eugene Water and Electric Board to simulate their response to a flood.

They closed down Northeast Klickitat, Southwest Maplewood and 51st streets for the drill.

But neighbors didn't seem to mind the inconvenience.

"I mean I know there are certain areas of town around rivers or Lake Oswego and the downtown area that I'm sure could use it," neighbor Rob Metzger said.

Water bureau officials said the training helps teach the two utilities how to work together by learning how to manage aid.
