LAKERIDGE, Ore. -- The Lakeridge High School football team played their first true home game at their new stadium Friday but not without a little controversy. The stadium, along with the lights and noise that come with it, has some neighbors upset. It's been a long road but the city council said Lakeridge can play games at home whether the neighbors like it or not.And after Friday's game, neighbors will work with the city to try to find a resolution to the problem.
Without the lights which tower in the sky, Friday's Lakeridge versus McNary game wouldn't have been possible.Tracy Stocker said the lights and the noise from Lakeridge games have ruined her family's once peaceful residential neighborhood. She said the lights are so powerful it can keep them up at night. But for 15 years, Lydia Mather has lived steps from Lakeridge. She said the Friday night lights ritual is just part of being human. Now multiple people said the city has done an OK job of keeping residents notified of changes. There will be another planning session in Lake Oswego later this month.
