Robber Sought In Yamhill County

Yamhill County authorities are trying to find a man responsible for two armed robberies in a 30-minute span.

The first robbery occurred Friday night at the Bakery and Tacos el Pad Reno on Third Street in Lafayette. Deputies said a lone man entered the store, showed a handgun and demanded cash.

Luis Bustos, who was working at the time, said he gave the man $200 to $300 in cash. When the robber said that wasn't enough, he stole Bustos' watch and two rings.

He was last seen running from the store, according to police.

About thirty minutes later, police believe the same man robbed the Great Clips near Fred Meyer on Brutscher Road in Newberg. Officers said he showed a gun, demanded money and then ran from the store with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Michelle Smith, who works in the area, said the Newberg robbery came as a surprise.

"It's kind of weird because we live in Newberg and Newberg is really small," she said. "That's an odd thing to happen."

The robber is described as Hispanic, in his 20s and about 5 feet 7 inches tall with short hair and a medium build. At the time of the robberies, he wore a green University of Oregon hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and a blue bandana.

Police said a white Chevy Suburban or a vehicle with a similar make and model may be linked to the crimes.

Anyone with information on the robber is asked to call police.
