A man armed with a hatchet-type weapon attacked two others near a Vancouver park Saturday morning.

The motive for the attack is unclear, but police have released a description of the man responsible.

Officers were called to Fourth Plain Boulevard and Neals Lane at about 8:45 a.m. After attacking two men, the hatchet-wielding man ran off and was last seen near 18th Street and Grand Avenue, police said.

One of the men suffered a skull fracture and had to be placed in intensive care at Southwest Washington Medical Center. The other victim suffered minor wounds to his head and neck.

The wanted man is described as white, 25 to 30 years old and clean-shaven with an unknown build. He wore a brown wool cap, a brown hooded sweatshirt, baggy gray pants and white tennis shoes. Police said he also may have been suffering from a mental condition or may have been under the influence of drugs.

Anyone who witnessed the attack is asked to call 360-487-7420.
