A 42-year-old man died Sunday when his pickup drove off Highway 99 and hit a tree, state police said.

State troopers said the man was headed south on the highway about three miles north of Cottage Grove when the pickup left the highway near Cea Jack Road.

The driver, whose identity hasn't been released, died at the scene. Police said he lived in the small Oregon town of Drain.

State police said speed factored into the crash. Troopers are still investigating.
