VANCOUVER, Wash. -- A video camera caught video that may lead to the people who used a credit card that was stolen out of a man's car on Saturday morning.Thieves broke into the man's car, stole his wallet and went on a spending spree across Vancouver. The owner of a gas station off Highway 99 said security video from outside his station shows a red SUV that was driven by someone who used the victim's stolen credit card to fill up.After looking at his credit card activity online and comparing the timeframe with the owner of a 76 station, the victim, Tony Metzger, said he figured out that the vehicles on the video were related to the thieves. He's hoping someone will recognize their cars. But Metzger said the gas purchase wasn't the first fraudulent charge made to his card."First thing we noticed was a $565 charge at Sears in Vancouver," he said.Metzger discovered the fraudulent charges Saturday morning and soon realized that someone had broken into his Trail Blazer, parked in his driveway. The thief or thieves stole his GPS unit, his Social Security card and every single credit card from his wallet."They basically went on a shopping spree all over town just spending money everywhere," Metzger said. The crooks gassed up a few times including once at the 76 station so after filing a police report, Metzger did some investigating on his own.He and the gas station's owner matched up his credit card number to the time on the pump receipts and caught two cars on camera. The video shows the driver of the red SUV get out to fill up, while the driver in the older, white sedan parks next to him.The station owner said the SUV driver paid with Tony's card and then the two cars left together."I made a mistake leaving my wallet out there and I'm definitely paying for it," Metzger said.He said this whole ordeal will leave him strapped for cash for a while, and he doesn't want the thieves to get away with it.Vancouver police officers are working on Metzger's case, but it's slow going. Because of budget cuts, detectives are no longer investigating property crimes. Officers have to pick them up in addition to their other duties.
