A Portland man who interrupted a burglary at his home was punched in the face by the man responsible Wednesday.

Linh Dau said he returned home near Northeast 156th Avenue and Halsey Street at about 4:30 p.m.

"And when I went home and opened the door, I was like 'Boom, boom' punched in the face," Dau said.

Bruised and battered with a black eye and bleeding lip, Dau went to a neighbor for help. The neighbor called 911.

Before police arrived, the attacker took off and left Dau with a mess to clean up. He said the burglar tore through his house and stole electronics and tax information.

"He took a bunch of my stuff," Dau said. "He took my laptop … He just ransacked the whole house."

Aside from the stolen items, Dau said the attacker stole his sense of security.

"This neighborhood is safe, but somehow after today, I don't feel safe anymore," Dau said.

Dau said the home invasion scared him so much that he's considering moving his family to a new area.

He said he didn't get a good look at the attacker and was unable to provide a description to police.

"Today has just really thrown me off," Dau said of the burglary and attack. "It has just like totally changed my perspective on things."
