A 20-year-old woman said she was beaten with a rock after she told a man that she was gay.

Washington County sheriff's deputies said the woman was walking along a street in Aloha on Tuesday when the man asked for a cigarette.

The woman said the man asked whether she was gay and became angry when she told him that she was. According to the sheriff's office, the attacker told the woman "that was disgusting and she was going to hell."

Deputies said the attacker then hit the woman in the face, jumped on her and beat her with a rock and his fists.

The woman was eventually able to break free and run away. A friend took her to a hospital to be treated for injuries she suffered in the attack.

The attacker is described as white, 16 to 22 years old, about 6 feet tall and slender with very large ears. At the time of the attack, he wore a zipped-up dark jacket with a white T-shirt underneath, dark jeans and black "skater type" shoes, deputies said.

Sheriff's deputies have asked anyone with information on the attack to call 503-846-2500.
