MILWAUKIE, Ore. -- A 97-year-old woman died Saturday after she was struck by a car in a parking lot.

Milwaukie police said Anna Hemming had been walking behind a car that was backing out of a parking space at an apartment complex on Southeast 31st Place.

Hemming was struck by the Subaru station wagon and suffered life-threatening head injuries, police said. An ambulance rushed her to Oregon Health & Science University, where she was declared dead.

The driver of the station wagon, 79-year-old Stanly Keltz, was not cited. Police said the incident was accidental.
