Police said they found the bodies of two brothers who were reported missing when they didn't return from a fishing trip.

Independence police said the bodies of Alvin Troub, 20, and his 8-year-old brother, Michael Runyon, were discovered within seven feet of one another in the Willamette River on Tuesday afternoon.

Police searched the area and found fishing poles and equipment that belonged to the brothers. Police said the equipment was found in the parking lot in a way that suggested the brothers were waiting to be picked up. The two planned to only be gone for about an hour.

Troub was found at about 1 p.m. and his brother's body was discovered about 45 minutes later, police said. Both bodies were found within 40 feet of shore in 10 to 15 feet of water near the spot where their gear was discovered.

Independence police said crews had exhausted all search possibilities for finding Troub and Runyon alive Monday and the search became a recovery effort.

They were dropped off at Riverview Park to go fishing Sunday at 2 p.m. When their family returned two hours later, the brothers had vanished.

Dozens of search and rescue personnel were at Riverview Park on Monday. Family and friends all watched as searchers combed the river looking for the brothers.

Crews combed miles of the river all day Monday, without finding a trace of the two. The river was high and moving swiftly from recent rains, Independence police said.

Police said so far there is no sign of foul play and investigators said the likely scenario is that they both somehow fell into the river.

A fund has been set up to help pay funeral expenses for the victims. Donations can be made at any US Bank to the Mary Troub Fund or mailed to US Bank at PO Box 3465 in Salem.
