Police Drug Dog Hit By Car Near Bend

POSTED: 1:38 pm PST November 21, 2008

An Oregon State Police drug dog is recovering after it was struck by a vehicle on U.S. Highway 97 south of Bend.

The 2-year-old yellow Labrador, named Lola, was on patrol with her handler, Senior Trooper Jason Hansen, when they pulled onto a U.S. Forest Service road just off Highway 97 for a break.

The dog started running into the woods and Hansen lost sight of her. He requested help after searching for about 20 minutes, and learned the Deschutes County sheriff's office was responding to a report of a dog struck on Highway 97.

The driver of the car stayed with the dog until help arrived. She was being treated at a veterinary clinic for a collapsed lung, internal injuries and bruising.
