BORING, Ore. -- People across the area are just starting to clean up damage from recent wild weather, but the damage was so severe in some places that some people can't go home at all.Three homes at a mobile home park in Boring were sliding into a ravine after trees and waterways turned into major threats to their property and their lives.Following the trail of debris through the front yard, Michelle Parr explained how extensive the damage was to her mother's home, one of three mobile homes damaged by rushing water during Thursday's rain storm."It started right here and went all the way almost to the end of her property and it was a river," Parr said.
The wave caused a mud slide in the back, which destabilized the homes and wiped out a family's deck with everything on it.There was damage all over Big Valley Woods Park with fallen trees and broken limbs scattered everywhere.A foot bridge was left as an unstable hazard after some of the supports washed away and the recreation center was placed off limits.Locals said Deep Creek lived up to its name as it rose 6 to 8 feet higher than normal."The creek was clear up, you know and it was like a freight train," neighbor Joy Slater said.Slater said she was asleep when she heard water rushing and trees falling. She had some damage to her deck but she prayed this would be the last of it."I don't want to move. I like it here," Slater said.Parr said her mother had no choice but to move."We're supposed to have another big, huge rain and we're just hoping that we get everything out before that happens and we're hoping to get it moved. We have to get a bid on it of how much it's going to cost to move it. Where to move it to is the next thing," Parr said.Parr said that she and her brother were just happy that they are able to move their mother to higher ground. The managers of the mobile home park said they're planning to move the home sitting on top of the land slide at no cost to the residents.
