WOODBURN, Ore. -- A burglary at a Dollar Tree Store in Woodburn on Friday later resulted in a bomb threat called in to a nearby bank.A Dollar Tree worker found the store's front door unlocked and more than $3,000 missing from the store's safe Friday, police said. A few hours later, authorities said, the investigation led police to the store's assistant manager Trualy Dixon and her friend Christopher Walker. When police tried to stop the pair, Walker ran off, Woodburn police said. Officers found him 20 minutes later but they said he had called a nearby Wells Fargo Bank and made a bomb threat in hopes that the police officers would give up the chase.Officers said Walker admitted to making the threat. His cell phone number showed up on the bank's caller identification, police said.
Authorities said Dixon and Walker attempted to make the Dollar Tree store burglary appear to be a break-in by damaging the door. However, police said, the pair used Dixon's key to enter the store.Stacy Benner, a Woodburn resident, said the bomb threat was a tasteless move. A month ago, two officers were killed and the town's chief of police was critically injured in a bomb blast at a West Coast Bank in Woodburn. A father and son were later arrested in the case."This town has been through enough," Brenner said. "They didn't need to put a bomb threat in to try to get out of doing something that dumb."Dixon and Walker were taken into custody on charges of theft, possession of a controlled substance and criminal mischief. Walker also faces a federal charge of making a threat against a bank.
