PORTLAND, Ore. -- A new restaurant opening in southeast Portland announced job openings and had hundreds of people show up for the positions.Last week, when Hobnob Grille advertised that it was looking for 20 people to fill serving jobs 460 people showed up for the positions.Wednesday, the restaurant was looking for cooks and dishwashers and more than 100 people showed up to apply.Last week, the owner of the new Hobnob Grille thought he had plenty of job application forms on hand but still ran out.He made sure to print plenty for Wednesday, and plenty of people showed up. Most said they had had restaurant experience. Others decided to try it, after looking for different jobs. Some said they’d worked in several Portland-area establishments and relayed stories of reduced hours and shrinking tips at their other jobs."I think we had the best of the best that are out there looking. I’m really confident about our team," Hobnob Grille owner Jason Heller said. But the large number of job applicants that gives the restaurant owner good choices also decreases the odds for applicants to find a job."There’s limited jobs out there. You know, you really need to save money. Every restaurant, every business needs to cut down on paying all people. So I think many people have lost their jobs," applicant Kristin Brownlow said. The new restaurant is scheduled to open in late February on Morrison Street.
