A woman who was with two people involved in a deadly crash in Beavercreek said Monday that she is being blamed for not stopping them from getting in the car.

Andelain Powell said she had been hanging out with Bethanie Adamson and Nick Lunde shortly before the crash that claimed Adamson's life. Powell said she and her friends were drinking, playing pool and playing shuffleboard at Rodder's and Wichita's Pub, two bars in Oregon City.

Lunde and Adamson then dropped her off at her home at about 2 a.m. Almost two hours later, Lunde's car crashed into a tree off S Ridge Road in Beavercreek, killing Adamson, Clackamas County deputies said. Lunde was hospitalized and later arrested.

Powell said Adamson loved to play soccer and described her as fun-loving.

"She was so much fun. She was always happy and had the biggest smile," Powell said. "Everybody that met her or came in contact with her was instant friends. Everybody wanted to hang out with her; she was the life of the party."

Despite Lunde's arrest, Powell described him as a great guy who completed two tours in Iraq. She said he was also a successful swimmer in high school.

"I really don't think he meant for this to happen. He wouldn't hurt anybody," Powell said. "This definitely wasn't on purpose and I'm 100 percent sure that if he could take it back, he would in a heartbeat."

Powell said she has received e-mails and phone calls from people who blame her for the wreck and who said she should have done more to stop them from driving under the influence.

Lunde is being held at the Clackamas County Jail on a charge of second-degree manslaughter. His bail is set at $250,000.
