2 Teens Accused Of Arson In Beaverton Fire

UPDATED: 11:00 am PDT May 7, 2009

Investigators suspect arson in a fire that damaged a warehouse Wednesday night in Beaverton.

A property manager for the warehouse complex at 5150 Western Ave. found water and smoke coming from the rear portion of the concrete building at 7:49 p.m. He called 911 dispatchers, who then sent Tualatin Valley firefighters to the building.

On arrival, firefighters said they found smoke coming from the rear of the building and, because of the building's size, called a precautionary second alarm to bring more firefighters to the scene.

The building housed used furniture that had been removed from the former Greenwood Inn motel.

Crews said they found a number of small fires that had been set in the stored furnishings and they quickly extinguished them. Meanwhile, other firefighters removed skylights to clear smoke from the building.

Fire officials said there's evidence that the building had been broken into and they believe the fires were intentionally set. Two teenagers have been arrested in connection with the fire. They're being held on charges of arson, burglary and criminal mischief.

No official damage estimate has been released by authorities.
