SALEM, Ore. -- A pint of beer gained new respect in the Oregon Legislature after house members passed the Honest Pint Act.Oregon lawmakers aren't forcing bars and taverns to pour true 16-ounce pints but some lawmakers said they wanted customers to be able to tell when they were getting the right amount. The bill would set up a system of stickers that the state will issue to pubs that serve what's being called an honest pint. Some beer drinkers said they feel like they've been getting less than they paid for.Between thick-bottomed glasses and heavy foam on top, many pints served are two to three ounces less than what's advertised. While some beer drinkers said the Honest Pint Act seems silly, others said they want to get their money's worth when they order a pint."They should serve a pint, a full 16 ounces that's what a pint is,"House Bill 3122 passed the house Thursday by a narrow margin and is now on to the senate.Legislators said no state money will be spent on the program. If taverns want to display the Honest Pint stickers, the taverns will have to pay for them.
