Two men used a Taser on a Salem store owner, handcuffed him, blindfolded him and then robbed him of 200 pounds worth of coins.

Art Van Weerdhuizen said the two robbers raided Capitol Coin on Commercial Street Southeast in the middle of the day. Seconds after the men entered the store, Van Weerdhuizen found himself on the ground with one of them repeatedly using a Taser on him.

"It's kind of like grabbing onto an electric fence and not letting go," Van Weerdhuizen said.

Van Weerdhuizen was handcuffed, blindfolded and forced to the floor.

"I was right here, faced down with my hands behind my back -- you can still see (my hands) are a little red," Van Weerdhuizen said.

The intruders covered the store windows and locked the door to prevent any witnesses from seeing inside.

"I said, 'Guys, what are you doing?'" Van Weerdhuizen said. "And they said, 'We're sorry, we're sorry.'"

According to police, the robbers spent 30 minutes inside the coin store before they ran out the door. They left behind a broken display case and shattered glass.

"I was listening -- they never did mention each other's names," Van Weerdhuizen said. "The one guy did the front and the other guy did the back."

Eventually, a customer walked by and noticed the windows covered, leading the customer to call police. The customer passed on a description of the robbers, who were seen leaving the store, to police.

Police describe the first man wanted in the robbery as white, 6 feet 2 inches tall and 180 pounds. He was in his late 20s to early 30s and had dark hair and long sideburns. His accomplice is described as white, 6 feet 5 inches to 6 feet 7 inches tall and 200 pounds.

They escaped in a red or maroon SUV or minivan. Anyone with information is asked to call Salem police.

Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest. Anyone with information is asked to call 503-823-4357 or visit www.crimestoppersoforegon.com.
