PORTLAND, Ore. -- Organizers of the Campaign to Recall Portland Mayor Sam Adams were gathering Thursday night in Southeast Portland. The political action committee called the event a "kick-out" party and said it was motivated by Adams' sexual relationship with Beau Breedlove, who was 17 when he met the mayor. They were planning to meet at Nick's Coney Island on Hawthorne Street. Those planning the recall are focusing on Adams' relationship with Breedlove and what he's said about it.The Oregonian newspaper, among others, has reported that a security guard saw the mayor and Breedlove having sex in a bathroom at City Hall. Adams has said they waited until Breedlove was 18.Opponents have appeared regularly at City Council meetings to scold Adams for his conduct of personal and city business.Adams has been trying to focus only on city business and refuses to talk about his alleged relationship with Breedlove.State law requires that an official spend at least six months in office before he can potentially be recalled. The people gathering at 6 p.m. are organizing the petition campaign that will begin July 1."I just believe, like I always have, that it's not what politicians do wrong, it's how they lie about it. And when Sam lied about his whole deal, everybody knows the story, it was a little letdown for me. And I think that we really need to focus on politicians being responsible and admitting to their mistakes and then moving on," Nick's Coney Island owner Ty Rogoway said. The organizers of the recall campaign said they're trying to put together a volunteer recall effort and don't plan to pay signature gatherers. They'll need to collect 50,000 signatures from registered Portland voters to get a recall election called.
