Washington County deputies are asking for help finding a man who snatched a woman's purse as she walked down a busy street in the Cedar Mill area.

The 30-year-old woman was walking on Barnes Road near Cornell Road when a man came up from behind her and tore her purse off her shoulder, breaking the straps, according to the sheriff's office.

The victim suffered minor injuries when the purse was ripped from her shoulder, but she did not require medical attention.

As deputies swarmed the area, a sheriff's K-9 team found several items belonging to the victim. Deputies believe the robber rummaged through the purse as he ran away. He was able to escape.

Business owners said it's not the first time a robbery has occurred in the area.

"This neighborhood has gotten worse and worse as the years have gone on," said Aeri Lee, who works in the area. "So, I'm actually not surprised that it's happened before."

The robber is described as white with a medium build and 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 11 inches tall. He has short brown hair. During the purse snatching, he wore baggy blue jeans with the letters JNCO written across the back of his pants. He also wore a blue short-sleeve shirt.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Washington County Sheriff's Office at 503-846-2500.
