Woman Who Helps Needy Assaulted In Home

A disabled Portland woman who provides emergency food boxes to the needy was punched and robbed by some of the people she was trying to help.

Colise Johnson said she hopes that police will be able to catch the three people who attacked her in her home on Northeast 86th Avenue and Northeast Brazee Street on May 22.

The woman, who has cerebral palsy and epilepsy, has been helping people less fortunate for more than 10 years by giving out emergency food boxes.

"We make calls and tell people the food is here and they come and pick it up," Johnson said.

Johnson said has a steady stream of regulars, but on the afternoon of May 22 a group who'd picked up food at least five times before came back in search of cash and anything they could grab.

She said two women waited outside while a man with a bandana over his face barged in the front door and stole a stack of plastic drawers before attacking Johnson and her health care worker.

"They just picked that up and I went to get up off the couch, he hit me in the head with a closed fist. She went to get up off the couch and they knocked her back on the couch," Johnson said.

She said on his way out the man also kicked her medical service dog, Ben.

Johnson said that because of her cerebral palsy and epilepsy, and after having brain surgery a few years ago, a blow to the head is very dangerous for her.

"We had the paramedics come out because I automatically started seizing from getting hit in the head," Johnson said.

She said the robbers stole money, credit cards, jewelry and other sentimental items.

They even used a Costco gift card she had and the whole incident is costing her close to $2,000.

"I was scared because they could've had a gun or something," Johnson said.

But she said she is mostly worried that the thieves are still on the streets and she wants them found.

After getting tips from other food box customers, Johnson said she thinks the name of the man who attacked her is Joshua, and he's 24 years old and the two women with him are 34 and 19 years old.

She said they are driving in a 1996, white Ford Escort wagon. Anyone with information about the case should call Portland police.
