A witness who saw a man breaking into his neighbor's car early Monday morning tackled the thief and held him until he was arrested, deputies said.

Deputies were called at about 3:30 a.m. to the 17300 block of Southwest Nazaneen Drive where Duc Do, 27, from southeast Portland, was being held by a witness who said Do was seen breaking into a neighbor's car, Washington County Sgt. Bob Ray said.

A witness told deputies she saw someone breaking into the trunk of her neighbor's 2006 Infinity G35 at about 3:30 a.m. and told her husband, who ran next door to tell the owner of the car, Ray said.

The husband and owner of the Infinity both ran out of the home and toward Do, who started to flee toward his own car when he saw them coming, Ray said.

While Do was trying to get into his car, he was tackled by the two people and held on the ground until deputies arrived, Ray said.

Do was arrested on charges of first-degree criminal mischief, possession of a burglary tool and unlawful entry into a motor vehicle.

Deputies said Do damaged the car's trunk when he pried it open in order to burglarize the vehicle. No other cars were found to have been burglarized.
